Data analysis for researchers
This workshop provides training on how to make the right data analysis decisions and how to analyze your research data. The workshop focuses on learning basic statistical principles and then using SPSS to carry out data analyses.
This workshop is led by Dr. G. Tendayi Viki.
This workshop is for you ...
... if you are involved in designing research and analyzing data within your organization. If you are involved in quantitative research or if you are involved in assignments that can produce quantitative data, such as usability tests, surveys and focus groups, you will benefit from this course.
If you are involved in doing qualitative research, you will expand your skills further to include an understanding of quantitative data analysis.
Duration
This is a two-day workshop.
Course requirements
To take part in the course, you must bring with you a laptop computer with SPSS installed.
If you don't have SPSS yet, you can install a trial version for the period of the course. Please contact us ahead of the course so we can tell you how to obtain it.
Overview
On Day 1 you will learn how to select the correct analysis techniques for different types of data and study designs. The advent of user-friendly data analysis packages such as SPSS means that people need not have extensive mathematical skills. However, they do need to know about research designs and methods. We will cover study designs, levels of measurement, different types of variables, and how to select appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics. After the day one, participants will understand how to make basic data analysis decisions within their research and work contexts.
On Day 2 we will cover the basics of how to use SPSS. You will be shown how to format and input data, carry out the analysis, interpret the output and how to present your findings. The training will be linked to the concepts learned during Day 1. Training will focus mostly on descriptive statistical techniques and how these can be used to analyze data relevant to your business needs.
